MALO A. (alias Malaurie Auliac)

“For many years, wild animals have been one of her favourite themes.
Her work was first expressed through mixed techniques mainly mixing watercolours, inks, biros and pencils, to nowadays mainly use acrylic paints. His preferred supports are paper and wood; the hardness of these materials and their resistance under the brushes meet his requirements.
Influenced for a long time by medieval art, his latest works are inspired by a very similar art: Japanese screens, called “byobu”. What they have in common is the gilding of the leaves and the importance of the animal world, both of which have a strong symbolic charge.
The gilding helps to animate the model without creating an illusionist setting; it allows, for example, to accentuate and direct the light, or to highlight the candour of a subject. Moreover, wood, which is a ribbed material, helps to recreate and give a certain dynamic to the paintings, particularly in the movement of water or the wind in the sky.”
