Born in 1991 in Nowra, Australia, Niah Juella McLeod is a contemporary artist of Aboriginal Yuin (Wandandian, Gunaikurnai, Jaimathang, and Monaro) and Anglo-Celtic heritage. She grew up in Bangalow, surrounded by nature and a loving family.
Her perspective was shaped between the artistic world of her mother and the spiritual legacy of her father, Bobby McLeod, a poet and Aboriginal activist. Now living in Byron Bay with her husband and their three children, Niah explores her identity through a sensitive and meditative artistic practice. The loss of her grandmother marked a turning point. She began a journey of reconnection with her roots, expressed through works made of delicate lines and dots — spaces of transmission, memory, and identity.
“When I paint, each dot almost feels like a breath.”
