Palimpseste 2 - 2017

"Palimpsest": Parchment from which the first writing has been erased to allow for the writing of a new text. These works add to the strangeness, blending truth and falsehood, spontaneity and mastery in a disturbing setting.

This series suggests the impermanence of writing. The successive layers cancel each other out, conflict, or interact in a mysterious arrangement. However, despite this impression of contradictory layers, of different time periods overlapping, there is ultimately a unity that forms a strange work and traps the eye—like the "Exquisite Corpse" play so dear to the Surrealists.
