Lampe raku, Stéphanie Ceska
A raku sculpture-lamp where earth, fire and cracks shape a unique piece.
With this sculptural lamp, Stéphanie Ceska brings clay and the ceramicist's hand into the realm of contemporary design. Modeled in a deliberately irregular and organic form, the ceramic base asserts the presence of the material. Its light surface is traversed by a network of cracks and dark lines characteristic of the raku technique. These marks are not mere ornamentation: they bear witness to the working of the clay, the firing process, and the element of unpredictability inherent in the process. The piece thus plays on contrasts: the softness of the form against the edginess of the cracks, the white of the ceramic against the black lines, the raw material against the warm light diffused by the lampshade. By transforming a sculptural ceramic into a light fixture, Stéphanie Ceska delicately blurs the line between artwork and functional object. When unlit, the lamp retains its sculptural presence; when lit, the light reveals the volumes and texture of the clay in a new light. A room where fire leaves its mark and where imperfection becomes the stuff of beauty.
