Piscine 44, Nicoleta Costiuc
A sunny interlude in which modernist architecture, color, and a female figure together create a dream world.
In Piscine 44, Nicoleta Costiuc immerses us in a luminous world where architecture, color, and human presence compose a scene on the border between reality and imagination. Around a turquoise pool unfolds a modernist architecture with clean, geometric lines. Pastel tones, palm trees, plants, and the deep blue sky immediately establish the atmosphere of a sun-drenched resort. In the foreground, a woman sitting at the water's edge seems to introduce another temporality: that of a suspended moment. The precise construction of the setting contrasts with the freer treatment of the human figure. This tension gives the work its singular character. Is it a memory, a real place, a recomposed image, or the projection of an ideal? The pool becomes a mental space as much as an element of the landscape. Reflections, perspectives, and flat planes of color organize the composition, while the soft palette evokes modernist aesthetics and the imagery of mid-20th-century Californian houses, without explicitly situating the scene. With Piscine 44, Nicoletta Costiuc transforms a moment of leisure into a silent and enigmatic image: a solar elsewhere where time seems to have stopped.
